May has quickly flown by, and I’m reminded once again how limiting time can often be. We all have days, weeks or months worth of tasks to accomplish and yet it feels as though we often never get ahead in our to do list. That for one job done, two more get added. Our time is precious and no matter how wise we spent it, we can never reuse it. (Which is one reason I will try and keep this blog post short)
May is a full month, between Mother’s Day, Graduation, School Ending, and Memorial Day, there are a great many ways this particular month can create a full time clock. But, here is something I’ve learned in the midst of the madness time can often create…
There is always time for your joy!
Now, I’m not talking about finding joy in the moment, or always being joyful or the joy of the Lord. (Which are all wise sayings.) I’m talking about your own singular joy. We all have it. It’s the thing we like to do that brings us joy. It’s that one thing you do for you! Do you know what yours is? Running? Reading? Sewing? Gardening? Shopping? Fellowship?
Mine, is writing. (I know, BIG surprise) But writing really is my joy. I write for you, yes. Of course I hope my words are read and enjoyed by an audience but more importantly I write for me. It brings me joy. It brings me motivation for other tasks. It provides a time out from the mundane. It’s my escape.
Between my busy life of motherhood, homemaker, etc. etc. etc. I often find that I can guilt myself into robbing the time for my joy away. I tell myself I don’t have time for it. Or, I should be doing something else that is needed not wanted. Do you do this to yourself too?
It’s easy to forget just how important making the time for your joy is. The truth is, time for your joy is needed. I encourage each of us at some point in the month ahead to spend time in our joy. Whatever that may look like, whatever it may be. It’s your joy and it’s worth your time!
